~ In Tribute to a Fine Young American Hero ~  / Garnet Jenkins (Sister to Sgt. David Dickinson~KIA/Vietna---m )

In Remembrance of your Fine Young Marine, with so much gratitude for his Courage, Dedication and Service to our Country and for Freedom.

May Rusty rest safely, in the care of God and know that he is a True American hero, that shall Never Be Forgotten.
May the Peace of the Lord continue to be with the Washam family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways, to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes, for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD,
AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD;
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM,
NOR THE YEARS CONDEM.
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN
AND IN THE MORNING,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

("For the Fallen" ~ September 1914 ~ R.L. Binyon)

May you find peace in knowing the love and memories you have of Rusty, will remain in your heart forever and that this Country Remembers his Sacrifice.
I am So Deeply Sorry for your loss.

We are very sorry for the loss of your brother, Rusty.  What a fine looking young man!  No words or time will heal the pain that you feel, but it does get better.  We are now able to look at pictures, read articles, and talk about Kevin without crying and we can laugh!  That is important - to laugh.  Your brother was very brave like my son - 1st. Lt. Kevin Gaspers - Thank you for the wonderful words on his memorial site!

CELEBRATING YOU!!!  / Leslie Slaven (FRIEND OF THE FAMILY )
"Dear (Rusty), we're all assembled
We've come to honor you
To share sweet recollections
And express our gratitude

You were a great example
Of the best way one can live
Your generous, loving spirit
Was the greatest gift that you could give

And we knew that we were privileged
To know someone so dear
You shared our lives, both the good and bad
Our true friend throughout the years

You took each day and challenge
Exactly as it came
Your spirit remained steadfast
Life couldn't make you change

Quite often we would marvel
At the determination found in you
How much we'll miss your courage
And your fearless attitude!

We know that you'll continue
To be the incredible soul you are
And though we cannot see you
We trust you'll never be far

Because a soul so special
Can never truly go away..."

Always remembered.  / Shirley Stephens (Friend to Sarah M. Washam ( my son Brad was in school at SHS with Rusty) )
I found this poem when my best friend (My dad) passed away in January 2007.  I think of Rusty and the other young men and women that gave all they had to the cause of defending our country.  He was truly a GREAT man.  We will continue to pray for your family.

Don't Grieve For Me

Don't grieve for me,
for now I'm free
I'm following the path
God laid for me.
I took His hand when
I heard His call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or pray.
Tasks left undone
must stay that way,
I found that peace at
the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
Perhaps my time has
seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now
with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts,
and share with me
God wanted me now,
He set me Free.

"At the rising of the sun and at its going down, we remember them"  / Nadja Sprayberry

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter, We remember them.

At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring,
We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer,
We remember them.

At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,
We remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live;
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make,
We remember them

When we have achievements that are based on theirs,
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too shall live,
for they are a part of us, as we remember them."

Thank you for your nice words you left on my loving husbands memorial page.

Misty had written on my brother Michael's page but had not seen it until today..... going on the page while is great to see pictures and sentiments is really hard for me. I would like to offer condolances to Rusty's family. It is always hard to hear about another Soldier or Marine who has lost their life to the war. I dont watch the news anymore. Michael was home 18 days before he was killed by a sniper in Ramadi, on their way back from a mission one of his friends was shot and he was returning fire.. he was the only one from his group/squad that was killed that deployment. As sad as it is our family was thankful that he was the only one, it could have been much worse.  Things are not easier after the second year annaversary I think the numbness is wearing off and the realization that he isnt ever going to come home is starting to sink in. If any of Rusty's siblings would like to talk Ill leave my email, Im a part of a online siblings chat group that seems to help when Im having a hard day. Hope you are all well, Ill keep you all in my thoughts........Amanda Close

A Letter From Heaven  / Misty Kirchgessner (Sorry for your Loss )
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say. But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through. God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you." "It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on. I need you here so badly, you are part of my plan. There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man." God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you.... in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years. Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and Id like it for you too; That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain. And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile." So if you meet somebody who is sad and low; Just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when its time for you to go.... from that body to be free. Remember you're not going.... you're coming here with me.

Final Inspection
Author - Unknown

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and
said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

This was a poem I had read at my husbands funeral and I have passed it onto others who have lost loved ones in the war because I feel it pertains to all our heroes who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom. May God give you peace through this terrible time and keep you strong. God Bless you and your family!

First, I thank you for the beautiful poem that Misty put in Sgt. Regina Reali's memory site. I have gone through all the pictures of Rusty and your family and what a beautiful family you all are.
I can only say to you that I know the pain you are feeling and can only say I am so sorry. I can see by all the pictures that Rusty was so very loved by so many. I am sure he feels all of your arms wrapped around him with all your love.

God Bless you all.
